Our Story![]() Welcome to Suite 1705!We are so glad you stopped by. Allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Paul and Gretchen Mortlock. Our home is in beautiful Vancouver, Washington, where we are the proud parents of Tank, our beloved golden retriever, and two cats, Tiger and Olaf.
Giving meaningful giftsAround the fall of 2006, Paul and I were discussing what we would like to give our family and friends for Christmas. Paul and I have always shared a passion for creativity, crafting and making others feel special, and we wanted our gifts to reflect just that. We wanted to give our family and friends gifts that were both memorable and meaningful. So, we started thinking about the gifts that others had given us. Almost all of the gifts that came to mind had one very unique commonality; they were all handmade. The beautiful throw that my grandmother crotched for us, the scarf that my mother-in-law knit, the photo collage that my sister created, the bracelet that my nephew designed for me, the handcrafted seasonal cards that my mom sends us, the wedding song that my brother wrote and performed for us … and the list goes on and on. After reminiscing about our handmade treasures, we decided that we were going to create handmade gifts for our loved ones.
Our photo album business is bornAround that same time, a very talented and crafty friend of mine had shown me how to make these handmade photo albums. So, we decided we would make them for all of our family and friends and put photos in each one. The photo albums were a huge hit! In fact, people liked them so much; they thought we should start a business selling them! After a year of brainstorming, creating, tweaking and re-designing, we developed two similar products that we were very proud of: the accordion-style coffee table photo album and the purse-sized brag book. How we named Suite 1705We named our business “Suite 1705” after our own home address and tagged the phrase “where memories unfold.” We began selling these photo albums and brag books in November of 2007 at various Christmas Bazaars and home parties. The success of these handmade photo albums has been remarkable! We are so blessed.
Helping you make memorable keepsakesIt is a real joy and honor for both of us to offer these handmade photo albums to you, so that you may participate in giving your family and friends a memorable and meaningful keepsake that will last a lifetime. This year, give them the gift of memories! Sincerely, |
